Daily Drop 5/19: Cora Jade Returns For Promo During WWE NXT Live Event, AEW Couple Gets Married

It’s time for the Daily Drop on Sunday, May 19. We’ve had a big month so far, and the final several days will be loaded with news and action.

WWE:

Evolution 2: Bayley opened up about her hope that the Queen of the Ring tournament will allow for WWE Evolution 2. The WWE Evolution event on October 28, 2018 was the first women-only event in company history. They haven’t had another event like it since.

Cora Jade Returns: In January, Cora Jade suffered a torn ACL at a WWE NXT live event, underwent surgery, and began her recovery. During a recent NXT live event in Fort Pierce, she surprised fans by announcing that she is just a few months away from returning to the ring. Jade also challenged NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez, declaring her intent to capture the title upon her return. That being said, Cora is not close to her actual in-ring return yet. It’s still great to see her come back for a promo.

Happy Birthday, Andre: WWE celebrated Andre the Giant’s birthday today. He passed away in 1993 at 46, but he would have been 78-years-old today.

AEW:

Wedding Bells in AEW: Ruby Soho and Angelo Parker just got married. She previously revealed her pregnancy and has been off television since then. We’d like to send our biggest congratulations to the happy couple.

Parker Hits The Indies: Parker Boudreaux, who was recently released from AEW, took to Twitter to comment on a post from CCW Wrestling, announcing his independent circuit debut yesterday in Palatka, Florida.

Bischoff on Mone: During the Wise Choices podcast, Eric Bischoff unloaded on Mercedes Mone’s AEW character so far. While calling her “one-dimensional,” he also said her recent interviews have shown improvement compared to her previous ones. Despite his general reluctance to critique character development, he observed that Mercedes’ character remains quite one-dimensional. He suggested that making her character more engaging would require a complex approach, akin to a unique math formula. Though he found her recent performance better than before, he still sees a need for more depth in her character.

“That character, the way she’s presenting herself — number one, it’s not over. You can pipe in all the ‘CEO,’ you know, as part of the music you want. The audience is not getting with it. Now, there were less than 4,000 people in that arena last night based on what I’ve seen from WrestleTix. A couple of hours before the show, there were less than 4,000 people in that arena. So that makes it tough, there’s just not a lot of energy there. But that crowd was flat. They’re not buying that character, in my opinion. And that is a producer’s note. Because if your characters aren’t working because there’s no depth to those characters, you’ve got a problem. And I’m not buying it, I don’t think anybody else’s either.”
