The WWE right now is in a decent position headed towards WrestleMania 32. Despite the litany of injuries that were sustained in the past few months, their card, while it does need some work, isn’t set up to fail.
WWE fans everyday claim that the WWE is dying (seriously), and there is no hope for the future. That’s exactly why Roman Reigns is in the main event and Dean Ambrose isn’t far behind him. Before Seth Rollins and Cesaro got hurt, they were on top, if not close to it like Cesaro was.
Ambrose will take on Brock Lesnar in a Street Fight. Triple H defends his WWE title against Reigns for the strap. Shane McMahon is facing the Undertaker for control of Monday Night Raw. Lastly, Charlotte is taking on Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks for the Divas championship.
The critics that claim the company can improve have valid points and always will. Nothing is perfect, and the WWE, most-importantly, will never be perfect.
Even the Attitude Era had it’s ups and downs.
Yes, the precious Attitude Era.
Improving the WWE was what they did three weeks ago when Shane McMahon returned to programming. It created angst and excitement across the WWE Universe. No, he wasn’t a NXT star waiting to get called up, but sometimes a WWE return is just as great.
Therefore, here are five former-WWE stars in which a return would be beneficial to the company:
5. CM Punk
Yes, the Voices of the Voiceless is no.5 on this list, because his return isn’t likely to ever happen and a lot of fans are sour on his name.
That shouldn’t make those fans neglect that a return from Punk would make any audience explode.
He can only instill more knowledge on younger stars, which is what he became known for backstage. On his documentary, many WWE employees praised his leadership qualities.
Don’t hold your breath, because he’s contracted through the UFC for multiple fights. If he does come back one day, then consider the WWE in the spotlight once again.
4. John Morrison
Johnny Mundo on Lucha Underground is currently one of the best wrestlers on their roster. He’s also gained a lot of charisma, mic skills and natural ability to entertain the crowd.
He’s never denied a WWE return before, but his latest comment about Reigns may switch the WWE’s mindset on bringing back in the future.
Morrison, like Punk, will only help the younger batch of WWE superstars. Plus, the WWE Performance Center is always looking for trainers. His athleticism was rare, which is why it’s barely been replicated. Shelton Benjamin, Seth Rollins and Neville can rival his skill set in that realm.
The former-WWE Tag-Team champion has a lot to offer, which is why a WWE return would be greatly beneficial.
3. Matt and Jeff Hardy
This goes without saying, but the Hardy Boyz should return to the WWE and help young teams get over. For the first stint of the Dudley Boyz’ return, they did put over the New Day. Before they lost all momentum, it worked.
Before they lost all momentum, it worked.
Matt improved immensely in Impact Wrestling and has become a staple of the Indies. As for Jeff, he still has a few great matches left in the tank. That’s not to say he is old, but the way he brutalized his body will come back to haunt him sooner rather than later.
2. Lita
Wouldn’t this be extreme?
Lita is in shape, can still work and the way women’s wrestling is being treated these days can only get better with the female high-flier in WWE history.
Criticism still lies, but with Paige, Natalya, Charlotte, Banks and Lynch, a legend should return to put over younger talent. It’s a recurring theme with all of these former-WWE stars, but isn’t that what coming back as a legend is all about?
If not, it should be. Remember, Chris Jericho’s motto is, “Return. Put Over Young Talent. Leave. Repeat.”
1. Kurt Angle
At one point, the Pittsburgh-native was rumored to come back to the WWE last year. Reports came out saying that Triple H and Vince McMahon didn’t want him back because of his health risk.
Whether that was true or not, Angle didn’t return.
Now, talks are resuming after he met with Triple H at the Arnold Sports Classic last weekend. Don’t presume they spoke about a WWE return, but it’s not outlandish to think they did.
One fit for Angle is on American Alpha, to replicate the former-Team Angle with Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin. Another role for Angle is to simply put over a young wrestler, like Cesaro for example.
Either way, the WWE Universe deserves to hear his infectious theme music again and to see that gold medal return on Angle’s neck.
What other former-WWE star would help the company by returning?
