Daily Drop 5/29: AEW Sees Multiple Exits, Shocking WWE NXT Debuts Take Place

It’s time for your Daily Drop on Wednesday, May 29. We have a lot to get into, so let’s not waste any time.

Before we get going, Jorydnne Grace shocked the pro wrestling world when she showed up on NXT this week to challenge Roxanne Perez for her title at Battleground. It turns out that Grace’s husband, Jonathan Gresham, thought that she was just gone for a grocery run.

He also posted a massive congratulatory message for Grace, remembering how far they’ve come, and how she is now living her dream.

Now, let’s get into today’s Daily Drop!

AEW:

  • Forbidden Door Casino Gauntlet Match: Winner receives an AEW World Title shot at Forbidden Door
  • AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland vs. Killswitch
  • Chris Jericho debuts new “TV Time” segment

Hager Is Not All Elite Anymore: Jake Hager is not on the AEW roster anymore. A report broke yesterday that he decided not to sign a new deal with the company, and their separation was a mutual decision. We can only hope that he takes that purple bucket hat with him wherever he goes next.

ARN Exiting AEW: It was also revealed yesterday that Arn Anderson is leaving AEW when his deal is up at the end of the month. His son, Brock Anderson, is no longer with the company, and he wants to focus on helping train him.

Copeland Injured: Adam Copeland beat Malakai Black at AEW Double or Nothing in a brutal barbed wire steel cage match, but he didn’t leave the match unscathed. The Rated R Superstar broke his tibia, and now that leaves a lot of questions about what is next for the title, and everyone involved.

Our ongoing AEW release and departure tracker for 2024 has been updated to reflect these latest exits.

Jungle Boy’s Fire Stunt: Jack Perry was “100% OK” after the Anarchy in the Arena match, despite the dangerous stunt involved. Having performed this stunt before, AEW took extensive precautions to ensure it was executed safely. Footage of Perry testing a firesuit months before the Double or Nothing match has also resurfaced.

Big Mama Pump x HBK: During her experience at NXT this week, Grace was able to snap a photo with Shawn Michaels. She proudly posted this gem of a photograph (that most thought wouldn’t be possible) to Twitter/X.

Sexyy Red’s Battleground Role: After fans wondered what Sexyy Red would do in NXT, we have our answer. She wants to party with Trick Williams, and she will host NXT Battleground from the UFC Apex on June 9.

NXT Battleground Card: The NXT brand put some more matches on the upcoming Battleground card. They finished booking the multi-woman ladder match for the new NXT Women’s North American Title, and added two title matches to the show.
