Daily Drop 5/22: Double Or Nothing Surprises, WWE Hall Of Famer Robbed & More

It’s Wednesday, May 22, 2024 and the wrestling world is gearing up for a huge weekend. In addition to tonight’s AEW Dynamite and the rest of this week’s regularly scheduled programming, we’ve got back-to-back special events.

WWE King and Queen of the Ring takes place this Saturday from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The following day (and halfway across the world), All Elite Wrestling presents AEW Double or Nothing from Las Vegas.

AEW Dynamite Preview: AEW Champion Swerve Strickland, Will Ospreay and Bryan Danielson will all be in action on tonight’s 5/22 AEW Dynamite.

Happy Birthday, Bryan: Today is Bryan Danielson’s 43rd birthday. The pro wrestling world is full of good wishes for him today, and it’s very likely that AEW will make a mention to this as well.

Double or Nothing Surprises? During an appearance on the Morning Rocker to promote Double or Nothing, Tony Khan teased some fun surprises in store.

“Well it’s going to be a great show, this Sunday it’s the five-year anniversary show of AEW. Its going to be a great PPV. You’re not gonna want to miss this one, it’s going to be an awesome, it represents the five year anniversary for us. We’re back where we began, at the MGM Grand. It’s a great time to be an AEW fan. It’s a great time to jump in. If you haven’t watched AEW and you haven’t watched in a while, there’s a lot of cool stuff happening right now.”

Danhausen Questions: AEW hasn’t used Danhausen in a long time. He is close to CM Punk, as the two didn’t hide their friendship online. The Very Nice, Very Evil star posted on Instagram with a cryptic caption reading: “I answer to none. I belong nowhere. I believe in nothing except myself.” Danhausen’s last AEW appearance was during the AEW TNT Title Right To Challenge Anytime, Anywhere Battle Royal at Worlds End. He has wrestled for GCW and other indie feds since then.

All Out Pushed Back a Week: All Out has usually been on Labor Day weekend, but that will change this year. The annual event will now take place on September 7th, pushing it back a week from the traditional date. All In London is still going down on August 25 in Wembley Stadium.

WWE News and Notes

Brandi’s Surgery Status: Brandi Rhodes recently underwent surgery to treat the disease Endometriosis. We’re wishing her a full and speedy recovery.

WWE Debut Delayed: Giulia is very likely on her way to WWE, but she suffered a wrist injury during her last appearance for Rossy Ogawa’s Marigold promotion. She will be out of action for a bit, and that could push back her WWE debut as well.

Romance In The Air? Dominik Mysterio has commented on the ongoing romance rumors between himself and Liv Morgan. Until anything officially happens, he’s an innocent man.

NXT Getting Sexyy: WWE is bringing in another mainstream celebrity next week. St. Louis-based rapper Sexyy Red will appear on the May 28 episode of NXT.

‘The Bump’ Taking Hiatus: WWE digital series The Bump will soon begin a five-week hiatus, according to Wrestlevotes. The will resume on July 3 from the new company headquarters.

Scooter Theft Hall of Famer Lita has announced her beloved scooter of 10 years that she named Hoolie was recently stolen. She asked her fans to spread the word and assist in locating it in the Bay Area before the thief could chop or sell it.
