AEW Revolution Results (3/5): MJF Defends World Title Against Bryan Danielson in 60-minute Ironman Match, More

AEW‘s latest pay-per-view ‘Revolution’ is ongoing (3/5/23) from the Chase Center in San Francisco, California! AEW World Champion MJF defends his title against Bryan Danielson in a 60-minute Iron Man match in the night’s main event!

Ricky Starks vs. Chris Jericho

These two waste no time in brawling and here we go! Starks dumps Jericho to the outside and nails the former AEW World Champion with a dive through the ropes. Starks sends Jericho back into the ring but Jericho takes control and sends Starks to the apron. Jericho backs up and drills Starks off the apron and into the barricade. Jericho flips off the San Francisco crowd in attendance and the fans return the favor to the leader of the Jericho Appreciation Society. Starks comes back in and the brawl continues. Starks goes up top and nails Jericho with a missile drop kick and goes for a spear but Jericho catches Starks in a Codebreaker and goes for the cover but Starks kicks out!

Both competitors struggle to their feet and start throwing bombs at one another. Jericho trips Starks to the mat and goes up top but Starks evades a diving axe handle and drops Jericho with a spear and goes for the cover but Jericho lifts the shoulders after a two count. Both Starks and Jericho come forehead to forehead while standing back up, Jericho runs the ropes but eats another spear from Starks. Jericho trips Starks to the mat and locks in the Walls of Jericho. Starks is struggling but knocks Jericho back and has a Boston Crab locked in. Sammy Guevara makes his way down o the ring but Action Andretti comes out of nowhere and takes Guevara out! Referee Aubrey Edwards is distracted, Jericho grabs his baseball bat and clocks Guevara with it. Jericho lines Starks up for a Judas Effect but Starks blocks it, drills Jericho with a knee, followed by the Roshambo for the 1-2-3!

Christian Cage vs. ‘Jungle Boy’ Jack Perry — Final Burial Match

For those who may not know, a Final Burial Match is essentially a casket match. Perry dumps Cage to the outside and stars lighting him up with some chops to the chest. Perry drills Cage with a drop kick to the chest and goes back into the ring, looking for a dive through the ropes but Cage jumps over the barricade and scurries off through the crowd. Perry chases after Cage and Cage smashes Perry’s face into the steel guardrail. Perry trips Cage down the stairs and dumps someone’s beer on Cage’s head. The brawl spills back into the ring and Perry bites Cage’s forehead before delivering a bevy of shots in the corner. Cage shoves Perry down to the mat and flips off Perry’s mother, who’s seated ringside. Cage starts going to town on Perry with some ground and pound and stomps on Perry’s throat while looking directly at Perry’s mother.

Perry dumps Cage to the outside and nails him with a dive through the ropes. Perry slams Cage’s head into the steel steps and looks to stomp on Cage’s arm whilst on top of the steps but Cage trips Perry back first onto the steps. Cage removes Perry’s belt and starts whipping Perry’s back. Cage is leaking blood from his nose but it doesn’t deter him from continuing to fire away on Perry with the belt. Cage chokes Perry with the belt on the stage before heading over to the casket. Cage opens up the casket and there’s some steel chairs inside of it. Cage sets up the chairs on the stage and goes for the Killswitch but Perry spins out and drop kicks Cage off of the stage. Cage nails Perry with a low blow to regain control and starts pounding Perry’s head into the top of the casket.

Cage opens the casket back up and tosses Perry inside. Cage tries to slam the cover shut but Perry fights back. Cage chokes Perry but Perry is relentless and rakes Cage in the eyes. Perry is up and out of the casket, trips Cage to the ground, and drags Cage over to the casket. Cage kicks Perry and plants him with the Killswitch but he isn’t looking for the finish anymore. Cage sets up Perry’s head on a steel chair and goes for the con-chair-to but Perry slides out and kicks Cage back. Cage trips Perry and tries to hit him with a shovel but Perry trips Cage down and chokes him with the shovel. Cage tosses Perry down and looks for the shovel shot once again but Perry trips Cage and locks in the Snare Trap with the shovel! Cage is tapping out but it doesn’t matter and Perry holds the submission in until Cage goes out cold. Perry puts Cage’s head on a steel chair and drills him with a con-chair-to! Perry drags Cage’s motionless body to the casket, tosses Cage inside, says a few words to him, kisses him on the forehead, and slams the cover shut for the win!

The Elite (Kenny Omega, Matt, and Nick Jackson) (C) (with Brandon Cutler) vs. House of Black (Malakai Black, Brody King, and Buddy Matthews) (with Julia Hart) — AEW World Trios Championship

Omega and Matthews start this one off. Some nice grappling exchanges kick off the matchup and Matthews makes the tag to Malakai. Omega goes right for a One-Winged Angel but Malakai slips away and kicks Omega to the mat. Omega tags out to Matt and Malakai does the same to Brody. The big man launches Matt to the corner and goes for a splash but Matt evades and drills Brody with a drop kick. House of Black rush the ring, The Elite escape before rushing back in and all six competitors are face-to-face in the center of the ring. The brawl ensues and here we go! The fight spills to the outside, Matt goes up top, and takes everyone out at ringside. Omega and Brody are in the ring, Omega nails Brody with a hurricanrana, Brody rolls to the outside, and Omega nails all three members of House of Black with a dive over the top rope.

Matt makes the tag to Nick, who nails Brody with a 450′ splash and goes for the cover but Brody kicks out after a count of just one. Nick grabs Brody’s wrist and runs along the top rope but Brody scoops and slams Nick to the mat. Brody sends Nick to the outside and fires him into the barricade. Brody crushes Omega on the outside with a sliding cross body and heads back into the ring with Nick. Brody lights Nick up with some chops to the chest and makes the tag to Matthews. Nick rolls Matthews right up but Matthews kicks out. Nick looks for someone to tag but Omega and Matt are both still down at ringside. Matthews makes the tag to Brody, who clocks Nick with a corner splash. Nick lights Brody up with some kicks and makes the tag to Omega, who goes up top and nails Brody with a diving cross body and goes for the cover but Brody kicks out.

Omega crushes Brody with a diving leg drop and goes for the cover but Brody kicks out once again. House of Black take over inside of the ring and Brody goes for a cannonball to a downed Omega in the corner as Malakai and Matthews line Omega up for a super kick but Matt and Nick come in and drill Malakai and Matthews with super kicks of their own as Omega dives out of the way of Brody’s cannonball attempt. Omega nails Brody with the V-Trigger and goes for the cover but Brody lifts the shoulders after a two count. Omega looks for a One-Winged Angel but he can’t lift Brody and Brody falls back on top of Omega. Everyone rushes the ring and stars brawling, Malakai and Omega are now the legal competitors, and Matt takes out both Malakai and Matthews with a super kick and running bulldog combination. Everyone is down on the outside except for Omega and Malakai and here we go!

Omega and Malakai exchange heavy strikes, Omega cracks Malakai with the V-Trigger and goes for the cover but Malakai kicks out. Omega drills Brody with a V-Trigger on the apron but he turns around and eats a series of kicks from Malakai. Omega plants Malakai with a German suplex, then another, and goes for the V-Trigger but Julia Hart gets on the apron and distracts Omega. Malakai goes for Black Mass but Omega ducks out of the way and looks for a super kick but Malakai ducks and Omega nails Julia Hart with the kick. Malakai drills Omega with Black Mass and goes for the cover but Nick makes the save just in time! House of Black rush the ring and each hit Omega with their finishers and Malakai goes for the cover but Matt breaks it up! Matthews and Brody take out Matt and Nick on the outside and it’s Omega left to all three members of House of Black. Malakai lifts Omega with his foot for another Black Mass but Matt and Nick come back in and take out Brody and Matthews.

The Elite hit Malakai with Super Kick Party and Matt goes for the cover but Matthews makes the save! Matt and Nick go for the Meltzer Driver but Matthews wallops Nick with a flying knee in mid air. Malakai clocks Matt with the Black Mass, Brody and Matthews plant Matt with their double team finisher, and Malakai pins Matt for the 1-2-3!

Winners – House of Black (NEW AEW World Trios Champions)

Jamie Hayter (C) (with Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D.) vs. Saraya (with Toni Storm) vs. Ruby Soho— AEW Women’s World Championship

This one immediately turns into a brawl. Everyone jumps the barricade and the brawl continues. Saraya tosses Hayter back into the ringside area and sends the champion into the ring. Hayter wallops Saraya with a urinage on the apron and gets back into the ring but Ruby comes out of nowhere and nails her with a diving cross body and goes for the cover but Hayter kicks out. Hayter cracks both challengers with simultaneous lariats and goes for a cover on each but both Ruby and Saraya kicks out. Ruby slams Saraya and goes for a running knee on Hayter but the champion plants her with a back body drop. Ruby nails Saraya with a DDT and a running knee on Hayter but Hayter kicks out.

Ruby goes up top, Hayter rushes over to her, and plants Ruby with a super-plex. Saraya comes in and locks Ruby up with a submission but Hayter comes in and forces the break. Toni Storm gets on the apron, Ruby takes her out, Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D. gets on the other side of the apron, and avoids being kicked by Ruby. Hayter is rolled up by Ruby but kicks out and rolls Ruby up herself and gets the 1-2-3!

Winner – Jamie Hayter (C)

After the match, Toni Storm rushes the ring and attacks Jamie Hayter. Storm helps Saraya up and she joins in on the attack. Britt Baker rushes over and evens the odds but Storm takes her out. Ruby has seen enough and dumps both Storm and Saraya out of the ring and celebrates with Hayter and Baker. Ruby nails Hayter with a Pele kick and also takes out Baker, who tried to attack her. Outside of the ring, Storm is breaking various items and tosses a cameraman to the ground. Saraya gets in the ring and hands Ruby a spray can and she spray paints both Hayter and Baker before celebrating with Storm and Saraya.

Jon Moxley vs. ‘Hangman’ Adam Page — Texas Death Matcht

Page attacks Moxley during the latter’s entrance and here we go! The brawl spills into the crowd and this one wastes no time in getting violent. Page launches Moxley back over the barricade and drills him face-first right into the barricade. Page sends Moxley into the ring and each competitor lights up the other with heavy chops to the chest. Moxley grabs some barbed wire from underneath the ring but Page rakes Moxley’s forehead with it and the blood is already pouring from Moxley’s forehead. Page starts unloading stomps onto a downed Moxley in the corner and wraps his own boot in barbed wire. Page looks for a stomp but Moxley catches his leg and starts unloading some heavy ground and pound.

Moxley grabs some barbed wire of his own and clocks Page right in the face with it. Moxley has a fork in his boots and tries to stab Page in the forehead but Page tackles Moxley to the mat. Moxley locks Page in a triangle choke and starts plucking Page in the forehead with it and now Page is all busted open. This one is all it was expected to be in the blood department, early and often. Moxley tangles Page in the corner and continues to stab Page with the fork. Moxley retrieves a barbed wire wrapped steel chair from under the ring and crushes Page with it. Moxley locks in a Boston Crab and has Page on top of the barbed wire wrapped chair while he has the submission locked in. Moxley lets Page out and cracks Page in the back with the barbed wire wrapped chair. Moxley sends Page to the corner and lights him up with some punches but Page grabs him and power bombs him onto the steel chair.

Page wraps his mid section in barbed wire and nails Moxley with a moonsault off the top rope onto Moxley on the outside. Page sends Moxley back into the ring but Moxley plants Page with a slam onto the barbed wire. Moxley grabs a chain and some bricks from under the ring and plants Page with a pile driver right onto the chain and bricks. Moxley locks in a cross face with the chain but Page bites Moxley’s hands to force the break. Moxley locks in the sleeper hold but Page plants him with a German suplex. Page crushes Moxley with a back body drop onto the barbed wire wrapped steel chair. Moxley rolls to the outside and Page wallops him with a dive over the top rope and onto a barbed wire wrapped table.

Moxley drags barbed wire across Moxley’s back and slices him with a pizza cutter. Moxley puts Page on the top rope and knocks him off, out of the ring, and through a barbed wire wrapped table! Page rushes the ring and goes for the Buckshot Lariat but Moxley ducks under and plants him with the Paradigm Shift and a stomp onto the bricks! The referee begins the count and Page gets up at nine but Moxley locks in the sleeper hold right as Page gets to his feet. Moxley thinks Page is out cold and tosses him down to the mat and the referee begins another count. Page somehow gets to his feet and cracks Moxley with a big clothesline. Page sets the bricks up but in a standing up position and looks for a back body drop into the bricks, Moxley rolls out and looks for a suplex, but Page grabs the chain and locks up a sleeper hold. Moxley powers out but eats a clothesline from Page. Moxley looks for another Paradigm Shift but Page shoves Moxley to the apron and locks in a sleeper hold with the chain wrapped around Moxley’s neck while Moxley is hanging off the apron and Moxley has no choice but to tap out!

Samoa Joe (C) vs. Wardlow — AEW TNT Championship

Wardlow launches Joe out of the ring right as the bell sounds. Wardlow fires Joe into the barricade then back into the ring. Joe trips Wardlow throat first into the top rope and dives through the ropes to take down Wardlow on the outside. Joe tosses Wardlow into the ring post then back into the ring. Wardlow nails Joe with a Whisper in the Wind off of the middle rope and slams Joe down to the mat. Wardlow lights Joe up with some chops to the chest, sends Joe to the corner, and nails him with a corner splash. Joe takes control after tripping Wardlow to the mat and sends the challenger to the corner. Joe start working over Wardlow’s left leg and the challenger is selling it massively. Wardlow plants Joe with a spine buster and an F-5 before going up top and nails Joe with a swanton bomb and goes for the cover but Joe kicks out at two-and-a-half! Joe locks in a sleeper hold but Wardlow drags himself to the ropes and gets his foot on the bottom rope to force the break.

Joe plants Wardlow with the Muscle Buster and goes for the cover but Wardlow lifts the shoulders after a count of two! Joe puts Wardlow on the top turnbuckle and tosses Wardlow right back down to the mat. Joe sets Wardlow up for the Powerbomb Symphony but Wardlow slips out and locks in the sleeper hold and Joe goes out cold! New champion!

Winner – Wardlow (NEW AEW TNT Champion)

Gunn Club (Austin and Colten Gunn) (C) vs. The Acclaimed (Anthony Bowens and Max Caster) (with Billy Gunn) vs. Jay Lethal & Jeff Jarrett (with Satnam Singh & Sonjay Dutt) vs. Orange Cassidy & Danhausen — AEW World Tag Team Championship

Cassidy and Jarrett start this one off. It’s a taunt off from both Cassidy and Jarrett and Cassidy starts taking everyone out with half-hazard back body drops. Everyone is brawling and the champions take control of the matchup. Bowens comes in and launches Lethal into Jarrett to dispatch both members of that team to the outside. Austin and Colten help Lethal and Jarrett take out The Acclaimed but the champions quickly turn on Lethal and Jarrett and take them out with a pair of super kicks. Lethal comes back in and nails Caster with the Golden Globe, Jarrett lays Caster out with the Stroke and goes for the cover but Caster kicks out. Jarrett argues with referee Aubrey Edwards and Colten makes the self tag on Jarrett and Danhausen makes a self tag himself. Danhausen lines Colten up for his finisher but Colten avoids and he and Austin hit a double team move on Danhausen for the 1-2-3!

Winners – Gunn Club (C)

After the match, Renee Paquette comes into the ring to interview the champions. However, FTR’s music hits and out comes the returning Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood! FTR takes out the Gunn Club and hoist the titles in the air as the San Francisco crowd erupts!

MJF (C) vs. Bryan Danielson — 60-minute Ironman Match, AEW World Championship

We get proper championship match introductions from ring announcer Justin Roberts, the 60 minute timer appears in the bottom right corner of the screen and our main event of the evening is officially underway! MJF slips out of the ring but quickly rushes back in and nails Danielson with an arm drag before mocking Danielson’s ‘YES!’ chant. Danielson uses some grappling to take over control of the matchup. A slick mat wrestling exchange ensues and both men kip up to a massive pop from the San Francisco crowd in attendance. MJF exits the ring, jumps the barricade, and fans start throwing trash at him. MJF tosses some water into a child’s face and the crowd loves it. MJF comes back to the ringside area and Danielson tosses him into the ring. Danielson locks in the sleeper hold, MJF rolls back, but Danielson has a double leg and arm lock knotted up on the champion. MJF scoops and slams Danielson and flips off the crowd.

MJF exits are ring to get a drink of water and nails Danielson with a nasty arm drag face-first into the bottom turnbuckle. MJF locks in an arm triangle then puts Danielson on the top turnbuckle but Danielson crushes MJF with a Canadian Destroyer off the top rope. Danielson crushes MJF in the corner with a running knee…then another…then a third. MJF scoops and slams out of nowhere and goes for the cover but Danielson kicks out. MJF dumps Danielson to the outside and goes for a moonsault off of the apron but Danielson rushes back into the ring and clocks MJF with a dive through the ropes onto the outside. Danielson sends MJF back into the ring and goes for a top rope dive but MJF catches him and looks for Salt of the Earth, Danielson spins out and MJF plants him with a package pile driver into a cover but Danielson lifts the shoulders after a two count.

A series of roll ups ensues, nothing of consequence happens, and both men take each other out with simultaneous cross bodies. Danielson is first back to his feet and crushes MJF with a running knee and goes for the cover and gets the 1-2-3!

First Fall – Bryan Danielson (1-0 Danielson)

MJF nails Danielson with a low blow and he’s been disqualified for another fall and it’s 2-0 to Danielson!

Second Fall – Bryan Danielson (2-0 Danielson)

MJF rolls Danielson right up after the low blow and he gets the 1-2-3!

Third Fall – MJF (2-1 Danielson)

MJF rolls Danielson right back up and again gets the 1-2-3!

Fourth Fall – MJF (2-2)

MJF goes for a third consecutive roll up but Danielson kicks out. MJF dumps Danielson to the outside and sets him up in the corner and looks for a running knee but Danielson evades and starts unloading kicks onto MJF in the corner of the barricade. MJF sends Danielson through a table with a piledriver, tosses him back into the ring and plants the challenger with another piledriver for the 1-2-3!

Fifth Fall – MJF (3-2 MJF)

Danielson crushes MJF with a running knee and locks in the Regal Stretch and MJF taps out!

Sixth Fall – Bryan Danielson (3-3)

MJF is busted open pretty badly following the sixth fall and the clock ticks under ten minutes in this one. Massive strikes are exchanged between both competitors and both are down on the mar. Five minutes to go and both are somehow on their feet and the brawl continues! Danielson cracks MJF with a roundhouse kick, a back elbow, and one more elbow that drops MJF. Danielson is tossed to the apron by MJF and the champion plants Danielson with the Heat Seeker and goes for the cover but Danielson kicks out. MJF rolls out of the ring for some water and comes back in to put Danielson on the top turnbuckle. Danielson starts unloading elbows to MJF’s chest whilst on the top turnbuckle but MJF scoops Danielson up and crushed Danielson with a flying Tombstone Piledriver from the middle rope! MJF is selling a left knee injury and Danielson looks to possibly be out cold. Referee Bryce Remsburg is checking on both competitors and MJF tries to drag himself over to Danielson and goes for the cover but Danielson kicks out and locks in the Boston Crab as one minute is remaining in this one! Danielson drags MJF away from the ropes and MJF bites his own hand to stop himself from tapping. The clock hits zero and MJF taps right after the bell and it won’t count and this one ends in a 3-3 draw! MJF retains the title!

The fans pour down ‘bullsh*t!’ chants as AEW officials and AEW Doctor Michael Sampson rush down to the ring to check on both competitors. Tony Schiavone walks down to the ring from the commentary booth and tells ring announcer Josh Roberts that Tony Khan has informed him that this match will resume under sudden death rules! MJF looks irate and Danielson is hyped up for the resumption of this one. MJF shoves referee Bryce Remsburg and Danielson rolls MJF up but the champion kicks out. MJF nails Danielson with a low blow behind Remsburg’s back and MJF rolls the challenger up but Danielson kicks out! MJF grabs the title and Remsburg tells him that if he gets intentionally disqualified, Danielson will win the title. Remsburg takes the title from MJF but MJF has the Dynamite Diamond Ring and tries to hit Danielson with it but Danielson rolls out and drills MJF with a flying knee and goes for the cover but MJF kicks out at two-and-a-half!

Danielson starts kicking MJF in just about every body part that’s available and locks in the Boston Crab. MJF starts punching the mat but isn’t tapping out and again has to stop himself from tapping out and he grabs the bottom rope but taps after grabbing the bottom rope so it won’t count! Danielson didn’t see MJF grab the rope and he thinks he’s won the match but Remsburg tells him that he didn’t win. MJF cracks Danielson with a breathing tank behind Remsburg’s back and locks in Danielson’s patented LeBelle Lock! Danielson is almost out cold but he stops his arm from hitting the mat. MJF tightens the hold and Danielson taps out! MJF retains!

Winner – MJF (C) (4-3 in Sudden Death)
